On Thursday 14th February, schools all over the world celebrated International book giving day. This is a 100% volunteer ran initiative aimed at increasing children’s access to and enthusiasm for books. International Book Giving Day has continued to grow & grow since it began in 2012.
At Beanfield we celebrated this special day by holding a whole school book giving day. On Thursday 14th February, children were able to bring in any books from home that were still in a good condition, which they no longer wanted and could give other children the opportunity to read. For each book that a child brought in they received a 10p voucher to spend in our book shop, which is full of a wide range of new and used books, priced from between 20p to £3. The more books a child donated to our book shop, the higher the value of their book shop voucher.
This was a fantastic opportunity for children to be able to recycle their old books for someone else to enjoy, but also receive a voucher which they can spend at our amazing book shop. We were so impressed with the amount of books that were donated as part of this special celebration. At the end of the day we counted 916 books that had been brought it, however thanks to some late donations this number is now nearer 1000! What an amazing effort from the children at Beanfield.
