Year 3 'Dinosaurs Rock' Topic - Nov 2018
On the 2nd November we held a launch day to move from thinking about the dinosaur era and travelling forward to the Stone Age. We were lucky enough to be visited by Dan our Stone Age expert.
Dan began the day by talking to us about time travel and how many ancestors we would have had between now and the Stone age. He also compared the length of time that we have been alive with how long ago the dinosaurs were on Earth. On his number line where 1cm = 1 year, he would need to stretch it all the way to Denmark to show how long ago the dinosaurs were alive.
After this he asked us to guess which animals were alive during the Stone Age and then showed us some bones and fossils that were hundreds or thousands of years old. Next it was time to find out what humans looked like thousands of years ago.
Next, we participated in a fun, active quiz. There were different Stone Age information boards scattered between the three classrooms and we had to hunt for the answers. Once we had completed the quiz, we coloured in some Stone Age drawings.
For the last part of day we made our own version of Stone Henge, before sitting in a circle so that we could all feel the artefacts that Dan had brought with him
