Special Provision

Welcome to Beanfield Special Provision.

Beanfield 67Within our provision, the children are at the heart of everything we do.

We are very lucky to have very special children that come to our provision, all of whom have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).

We pride ourselves on our close and caring relationships with our children and families. All of our staff take time to get to know each individual child’s needs and interests, unique personalities and abilities. Learning can be a challenge for our children. However, we pride ourselves on ensuring each child feels valued, confident and excited about their education.

All our children are supported to become independent learners. Our dedicated and passionate team have high expectations for our children; they approach their needs in a very personalised and tailored way, supporting each individual child to take steps towards reaching their full potential.

Children not only achieve academically through their learning opportunities but also flourish physically, socially and emotionally.

Staff in the special provision work closely in partnership with parents/carers and other professionals to ensure the best possible experiences and outcomes for each child.

I hope that you find all the information you need on our website. However, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch or come and visit us to see the wonderful work we do.

The Special Provision caters for a total of 55 pupils across 6 classes that are banded as below:

UKS2

  • Sharks
  • Starfish

LKS2

  • Stingrays
  • Turtles

EYFS / KS1

  • Seahorses
  • Dolphins

Each class has a teacher that is responsible for ensuring that the curriculum meets the needs of all the children and is delivered appropriately based on the learning pathway their class is on.  They are also responsible for assessing the children’s understanding and ensuring that their children make progress alongside meeting any pastoral needs that they may also have.  In addition to the class teacher, each class also has support dependent on the needs of each individual class.

Taught sessions are delivered using multisensory teaching approaches to ensure that the individual needs of all pupils are met.  This may include 1:1 focussed learning, small group sessions with children who are working at similar levels of development, or whole class teaching.  We also work closely with a wide range of professionals, including Speech and Language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and the special school nursing team to ensure every child in our care gets exactly what they need.  Some children may also receive 1:1 support from specialists such as the teacher of the deaf, the mobility service or the visual impairment team.

At Beanfield Special Provision, we use the Equals subject specific curriculums for English, Maths and Science and the Equals Semi-formal curriculum for all other subjects within KS2 and where appropriate for children in KS1. All other children are working on the EYFS Curriculum at the child development level that matches their needs and abilities.

All children within our provision are on an identified learning pathway. We have two pathways, an ASD pathway and an SLD pathway. The pathway that the children are placed on is dependent on their SEN needs, academic and social abilities.

Assessment within the Special Provision is crucial in identifying progression, next steps and informing a child's Individual Curriculum Pathway and Education Health Care Plans, enabling them to grow into successful independent individuals.

Within the Special Provision, children are assessed against:

  • B Squared-Core Subjects (Maths, English, Science)
  • Earwig- EHCP Targets

The Special Provision at Beanfield caters for 55 pupils aged 4-11 whose Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) identifies severe and complex learning difficulties, including Autism.

Admissions for children into the Specialist Provision must have a relevant EHCP, meeting the required criteria of need.
