Year 5 Music Day
Year 5 enjoyed participating in music day on Friday 7th February; they took part in three workshops throughout the day, relating to ‘The Lorax’ by Dr Suess. These workshops revolved around singing, reading musical notes and percussion.
In 5A we listened to the song ‘Everybody needs a thneed,’ to begin with we drew our responses to the song and annotated these; we then discussed the structure and melody before splitting into two groups to create a call and response style song.
In 5B we learned how to read, write and perform musical notes, we also learnt how to read the notes on a stave and finally we composed our own piece of music using the chime bars and boomwhackers.
In 5C we looked at the timbre of hand percussion instruments and learnt the proper Italian vocabulary to describe dynamics within music. Miss Nash led a session on timbre, demonstrating the different timbre’s found on a drum kit. We then applied this to ‘The Lorax’ using different percussion instruments to bring nonsense words used in the text to life.
